There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and if you need anything don't be afraid to take a moment to drop us a line.
Nestled within the breathtaking landscape of Treaty 8 Territory lies our village, rich in cultural heritage and natural wonders.
This land has been cherished for generations by the Cree and Dene peoples, who have gathered sustenance from its bountiful resources, including food, fish, and traditional medicinal plants.
One of our best-kept secrets is our pristine nighttime environment. Alberta boasts some of the clearest skies and most abundant sunshine in Canada. Coupled with the crisp cold nights, these conditions create optimal viewing conditions for the mesmerizing Aurora Borealis. Indeed, the colder the temperature, the more spectacular the display.
Our chosen spot for Aurora Borealis viewing is atop Birch Mountain, located northwest of Fort McMurray. Positioned just below the renowned Wood Buffalo National Park, home to the largest dark sky preserve in the world, our village offers unparalleled opportunities for stargazing and celestial marvels. Here, away from the glare of city lights and industrial sites, guests can immerse themselves in the pristine beauty of the natural world.
For those seeking the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Aurora Borealis, the ideal time to visit is from October to the end of April. As temperatures drop, the skies become clearer, providing the perfect backdrop for the brilliant dancing lights that adorn the night sky.
Even during the summer months of July and August, when the hours of darkness are shorter compared to winter, sightings of the Aurora Borealis are still possible. This natural phenomenon graces us with its presence year-round, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, visibility is contingent upon clear night skies and heightened solar activity, as the Aurora Borealis cannot be observed during daylight hours.
To watch Aurora Borealis the colder the better. We need clear skies with no cloud cover therefore we go out for 3 nights, so we have the best chance to see the Aurora Borealis. As the God’s can only predict the weather.
